WHY ARE WE MAKING THIS APP?

With PopViewers, Chris Witherspoon intends to give everyday people an opportunity to express video reactions and comments to what they are watching in real time. The app is striving to do what Witherspoon has done his entire career: pass the mic back to a diverse community of viewers.
Audiences have the opportunity to swipe right on the content they love and leave reaction videos and comments, or swipe left on content that misses the mark and provide explanations. The goal is directing consumers to content they’ll love and giving production studios more direct insight into audience reception.
App structure
I was tasked with designing happy path screens for the PopViewers app. In order to do so, it was important for me to understand how a user will move through the app to complete 3 main tasks: Finding content, reacting to content and engaging with a community.
First time and onboarding
Upon accessing the app for the first time, users will be able to select genre preferences in the onboarding process. The app will use these selections to provide a personalized entertainment experience for users.
Picked for you
This section showcases new movies and shows that fit the users’ preferences. Users can share, save, and see ratings for entertainment content.
Reactions
This section is where users will see what the community is saying about the content they are interested in. From here, users can reply to other users’ posts or flag reactions that might have spoilers.
Discover
This is where users can discover ALL content and new releases regardless of their content preferences. While we aim to prioritize personalized entertainment we want to make sure users are not missing out on opportunities to explore content they wouldn’t normally engage with.
Record a reaction
A word of mouth cosign means more than a score from critics. The Record feature gives users the opportunity to share their personal, real time and unsolicited take on movies or tv shows to a community of viewers.
Watch List
The Watch List is a collection of content that has been saved by the user. If a user has swiped right or tapped the “Add” button on any piece of entertainment, it will show here. Users can use this list to prioritize what to watch next.
Details and showtimes
On the Details screen, users will see more information about the content such as a plot synopsis, cast and crew, reaction videos from the community and additional trailers.
For movie content users will be able to view showtimes at nearby theaters.
Search
Users can search for entertainment content that interests them. Results will return everything from movies, TV shows, cast members, tags, user accounts and reactions.
Profile
Users’ space to access their own posts as well as account settings.
